Musings on Identity, love & clothing

I did a post on love being the key to sustainability. But what, does it mean when you ‘love’ something and why is this a good direction to go in? It comes down to identity and wanting to be who and what we are. Clothing is one way of expressing ourselves.

When you love a blouse or a dress, it means that something deep inside of you is connecting to it. Some call it your ‘soul’, some call it a ‘psychic footprint’. The name doesn’t matter as much as the idea that each of us is unique and different from all of the other people who inhabit the planet (and all who have come before and will come after). I believe one of our missions and perhaps the central one is to express who we are and bring that out into the world.

When you get excited or feel alive looking at or trying on a piece of clothing it’s because that is *who you are*–and your soul is telling you so. But when you try on or wear something that isn’t you–you are literally drained of energy. Why do some people like polka dots and others love the color pink? Why are some people into gowns and others wear out their motorcycle jackets? The answer lies deep within us–our unique essence that we are here to bring out for all to see.

We’ve really lost our way in terms of utilizing clothes as a means of self-expression. Maybe it’s all of the bloggers or influencers, but ‘style’ has become much more homogenized–almost uniform-like. When we do see someone with true style, it stands out.

When you ‘love’ something it’s because there’s a part of you that is saying: this is me! These are the pieces that are going to stay in your closet for a very long time. It’s having some kind of connection to your clothes and being creative with them. And that is exactly what your soul is looking for.
